The Ulinity
Spring 2023
Photography
The Ulinity is an examination of masculinity and femininity. Like many people, I’ve asked what it means to be a man — or just a person. Though society often presents masculinity and femininity as a binary, I see them as a spectrum like estrogen and testosterone, varying in levels across individuals. This project uses everyday objects with gendered associations, putting them in dialogue. The composition explores tension and cooperation between the traditionally masculine and feminine without using people as subjects, because this experience is deeply personal. Instead, the work becomes a mirror for viewers to reflect on their own definitions.
